In Honour of My Dad — Loved Always, Remembered Forever

I'm taking part in Cuppa Time for Dementia to raise funds that support more than 433,300 Australians living with this condition right now.

But I need your help!

Please support me so we can continue to help people with dementia by providing the services and support they need every day.

Dementia is the leading cause of death among women in Australia. And overall it comes in at number 2. That's why we need to do something now.

Let's create a Dementia-Friendly Future for tomorrow and help people impacted by dementia today.

When you support me, your donation goes straight to Dementia Australia. It will help them:

  • Provide a 24 hour support line
  • Offer counselling services
  • Create and provide important information about dementia
  • Help people plan their nexts after a diagnosis
  • Fund much needed research into prevention, treatments, and a cure.

Let's tackle dementia, together.

Thank you for your support.

The Most Difficult Goodbye: Our Heartbreaking Journey With Alzheimer’s Dementia

Saturday 11th Oct

In 2022, our world shifted in a way we never could have prepared for. My beloved dad, our rock, our protector, our everything, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s dementia.

We didn’t know then just how devastating this journey would become. You hear about this disease, read stories, maybe even know someone whose loved one has been through it, but nothing truly prepares you for watching someone you love so deeply fade in front of your eyes.

Dad was always full of life. A beautiful, humble, funny, caring, loving, and incredibly handsome man. He was our mentor, our provider, and the kind of human being who left everyone better than he found them. His presence lit up every room, and his heart was as big as his smile.

But Alzheimer’s didn’t care about any of that. Slowly, painfully, we watched it steal pieces of him. By 2023, it became clear that he needed more care than we could provide at home. With heavy hearts, we made the decision to move him into a nursing home — one of the hardest decisions our family has ever made.

It wasn’t just the disease that took its toll. The increasing medications, the disrupted routines, the confusion, the fear in his eyes when he didn’t recognise where he was or even who we were some days, it was unbearable. Each visit was filled with both love and heartbreak, as we held onto every moment of clarity and every fleeting smile.

In May 2025, things took a turn for the worse. Dad was admitted to the hospital as his condition rapidly deteriorated. It was a blur of doctors, waiting rooms, tears, and quiet moments holding his hand. The sparkle in his eyes dimmed, and the man who once stood so strong began to slip away.

On a day in June 2025, our worst fear became reality. Dad passed away.

Losing him has been the most painful, heart-wrenching experience of our lives. We didn’t just lose our father, we lost our friend, our guide, our everything. But even in his final moments, he reminded us of what love truly is. Quiet strength. Gentle courage. Endless care.

Alzheimer’s may have taken his memories, but it can never take who he was and always will be to us.

We miss you so much, Dad. You fought with dignity and grace. Your legacy lives on in every laugh, every lesson, and every loving memory you left behind.

We will carry you in our hearts, forever.
